Staying Resolute: A Guide for Female Entrepreneurs to Pursue Those Goals Beyond January

Hey ambitious female entrepreneurs – I’m Shelley Bosworth, your business and mindset coach, and if you are anything like me then you’ll have started 2024 with a set of big goals. We all set out with the best of intentions, but it can get harder and harder to stay motivated and focussed to keep pursuing those objectives, especially when life starts to get in the way. In this article, I want to help to guide you on how to keep your momentum going beyond January so that you achieve your goals and really move the dial in your business – and your life! We all know how easy it is to set New Year’s resolutions and goals, only to see them fizzle out as the year progresses. However with the right mindset and strategy, you can continue to pursue your dreams and achieve success throughout the year. Let’s dive into some valuable insights to keep you on track.

1. Reflect on Your "Why"

The first step in maintaining your focus and determination is to revisit your “why.” Ask yourself why you embarked on your entrepreneurial journey in the first place. What is the driving force behind your business? Is it to make a difference in your community, provide for your family, or pursue a lifelong passion? Reminding yourself of your purpose can reignite your motivation and help you stay committed to your goals.

2. Set Specific, Measurable, and Achievable Goals

One of the reasons many resolutions fail is because they lack specificity. Instead of setting vague goals like “I want to grow my business,” break it down into specific, measurable, and achievable targets. For example, “I aim to increase monthly revenue by 20% by the end of Q2.” Setting clear objectives will give you a roadmap to follow and make it easier to track your progress. When I am with my 1-2-1 coaching clients, I get them to really chunk down the big vision into actionable steps and think about the things that could get in the way, derail progress or even accelerate progress. That allows you to create a meaningful plan that is more than just a wish list.

3. Create a Vision Board

A vision board is a powerful tool for visualising your goals and dreams. Take some time to create a vision board that represents your aspirations for the year ahead. Include images, quotes, and words that inspire you and remind you of your goals. Place this board in a prominent spot where you’ll see it daily. It will serve as a constant reminder of what you’re working towards. Since moving out to Dubai and becoming a business coach helping women in the Emirates as well as the UK and Europe, I have created a whole new vision board that has become my North Star for guiding my path. If you want to follow that journey then connect with me on Instagram where I share my world (and I also get you thinking about your mindset and business strategy too)

4. Stay Organised with a Planner

In the whirlwind of entrepreneurship, it’s easy to lose track of your goals and priorities. Invest in a good planner or use digital tools to help you stay organised. Break your goals into smaller tasks and schedule them throughout the year. Regularly reviewing your planner will keep you focused and ensure you’re making progress. There are some brilliant planners out there – check out Amazon for example or the Perfect Planner company. If you are looking for a digital solution then my planner pack is available at just £9 – a great low cost option that is good for the planet too!

5. Seek Accountability Partners

Accountability can be a game-changer when it comes to pursuing your goals. Finding like-minded friends, mentors, or even fellow entrepreneurs who can hold you accountable for your actions can not only support your progress but it can help you with your overall emotional wellbeing too. That is why I created the Courageous Me Collective membership – a space for female entrepreneurs to come together under my leadership and guidance to stay on track with their goals and find a true community of like minded people.

6. Embrace Continuous Learning

The business landscape is constantly evolving, and successful entrepreneurs are those who adapt and grow with it. Make learning a lifelong habit. Attend workshops, webinars, and seminars related to your industry. Read books and articles that expand your knowledge. Investing in yourself is an investment in your business. I am always investing in myself and my business – we are never the finished article, and having a commitment to learning can even make the business of being in business fun dare I say it!

7. Practice Self-Care

One that often gets forgotten, but is frequently a factor when it comes to goal progression going wayward is lack of self care. As female entrepreneurs, it’s essential to remember that taking care of yourself is not selfish; it’s a necessity. Burnout can hinder your progress and enthusiasm. Set aside time for self-care activities that rejuvenate you, whether it’s meditation, exercise, or simply spending quality time with loved ones. I was worried when I moved out to Dubai that I wouldn’t keep up with my regular running habit. The heat, the unknown environment – all of the things were niggling my mindset, but I knew that I needed to maintain my running to be able to stay on track with my plans and strategy for building my business out here. I can now report that I love running out here, and I really don’t miss the UK rainy runs that much!

8. Overcome Fear and Perfectionism

This one is a biggie but we need to talk about it. Fear of failure, and the desire for perfection can literally paralyse your progress. I want to empower you to know that making mistakes is a part of the entrepreneurial journey. Embrace failure as a valuable learning experience and let go of the need for everything to be perfect. Take calculated risks and keep moving forward. Failing forward is a real thing (check out John Maxwell’s book on this) and it can be a game changer for keeping you on track with your overall vision and goals.

9. Network and Collaborate

Building a strong network of connections is crucial in the world of entrepreneurship. By attending industry events, joining online communities, and reaching out to fellow female entrepreneurs you will be inspired to pursue your goals and it can be hugely motivating when you are around other successful people. Don’t underestimate the power of collaborations and partnerships which can open up new opportunities and provide valuable support. This is something I have been really embracing here in Dubai – and if you are looking to establish a business in the UAE it is something that I would definitely advocate.

10. Celebrate Small Wins

A simple one, but don’t wait until the end of the year to celebrate your achievements! Recognise and celebrate your small wins along the way. Acknowledging your progress will boost your confidence and motivation to continue pursuing your goals.
